Girl Scouts announce Silver Award project by hosting princesses by Peggy Zortman

Madison Ross, Emma Roy, Taylor Roy and Chloe Sawyer, Cadettes from Reynoldsville-Sykesville Girl Scout Troup 28021, recently sponsored  “Party Like a Princess” at the Presbyterian Church.  Activities included nail painting, games, crafts, a photo booth, and story time. The event was free and those attending were encouraged to dress like a princess. Fifty-two smiling, young princesses took part in the party.

The purpose of this event was to make people aware of a very special project. The four young sponsors of the event joined forces in a project to earn the Silver Award, the highest award possible for a Girl Scout Cadette to achieve and the second highest award of Girl Scouts of the USA. 

Earning this prestigious award takes many steps including building a team of four Scouts who must explore their community, pick their Silver Award project (something that will make a lasting contribution), develop the project and finally put it in motion. Each Scout must devote a minimum amount of fifty hours to the project.

After much research, Madison, Emma, Taylor, and Chloe chose to build and place Little Libraries. With advice from Karl Rebon, Reynoldsville Library’s Director, the girls developed a plan and placed not just one Little Library, but two. One is located near the Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsville, the other will soon be installed near the school at Juanita Lake in DuBois.
